Not looking for a “social bookmarking” site… I have thousands of bookmarks and I want to be able to organize them with a drag & drop interface. I realize Firefox’s built-in bookmark manager will allow this, but I’m looking for something a little more robust. Ideally, something that has a preview screen of the bookmark’s corresponding web page, a built-in link checker (finding bookmarks that link to dead pages), and maybe some kind of “optimizer” that will check my bookmarks on-demand or automatically & alert me to duplicates and newly-deceased current bookmarks. I know there’s an extension that will alert you when you try to add a new bookmark that already exists, but it’s not really what I want.
It can be web-based or stand-alone, but if it’s web-based, I want the ability to keep my bookmarks private.
THANKS!

I have a client whom I have recommended they have a social bookmarking service created as a tool to encourage natural linking.
My idea is to create an integrated social bookmarking service service that would be at the root of their domain name. This way when we have widgets displayed on other people’s sites, my client’s site would earn the link back.
Now considering that the bookmarking section would be at the root of the domain how successful would it be if I recommend getting a domain name and have that redirected to the bookmarking section? Would this tactic cause any SEO damage?
Adam, I agree that the market is saturated for bookmarking sites, but they are ‘general. When people need to find sites for trendy women, they go to HerFabLife.com, developer links? DZone, and the list goes on. For that reason, I need a niche one for my clients.

I would have posted this in the web publishing category, but I never get useful feedback. I run a movie entertainment website that gives users similar capabilities as Myspace and Facebook in that you can submit reviews, post blogs, create a profile, add videos, share photos…the whole works. It’s very identical to Flixster, but for some reason, it doesn’t seem to be attracting man visitors. Does anyone know of any good approaches to promote the site? It’s www.reelempire.com. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also, I’ve tried Digg and social bookmarking, so please don’t tell me that lol.

Will the number of diggs, upvotes, thumbs-ups given by a user to other’s submissions be considered in evaluating the popularity of the user in social bookmarking sites?
Can we achieve popularity only by submitting webpages, by not digging and upvoting other’s submissions?

I’m new to marketing and have been using social bookmarking to get the word out about my blogs and articles and such. but I’m still not selling anything yet. I also link like crazy and I use yahoo answers for a little traffic but again I just don’t think I get enough traffic. If you know of others ways to help me get traffic for free please let me know.
