I think creating a SB site is a pretty good idea as long as it is a niche SB (I agree that SB market a little bit overcrowded).

Using a 301 redirection, google will not penalize your site unless it is a huge amount.

The idea of providing people with a free tool that will link back to your client is not necessarily a bad idea, I just don’t think creating a new social bookmarking service is the way to do it.

In theory, this could be an effective SEO tactic. It’s not much different from people who make free WordPress templates that include a link to their page at the bottom (”Designed by Tom @”).
However, I don’t think this will work very well for you because, to be honest, the social bookmarking “industry” is pretty saturated. Why are people going to suddenly start using your service when there are more established services like Dig

If I’m understanding you correctly, you want to basically create your own social bookmarking service as a way of getting free links for your client?

In theory, this could be an effective SEO tactic. It’s not much different from people who make free WordPress templates that include a link to their page at the bottom (“Designed by Tom @”).

However, I don’t think this will work very well for you because, to be honest, the social bookmarking “industry” is pretty saturated. Why are people going to suddenly start using your service when there are more established services like Digg, Del.icio.us, Reddit, Netscape, etc. out there already?
